What kind of things can cause you to fail a pre-employment background check?

everneverwhere asked:

I just got into a Dealer school at a casino. You have to get a gaming license from the state before you can be on the gaming floor. Apparently they do a thorough background check. I have no criminal history or anything, but anytime someone says background check it can cause you to worry. What can cause you to fail a state background check? Answers from anyone in the casino industry would be appreciated.

Any kind of conviction—misdemeanor or felony would show up on those background checks. In addition, they do check if there was ever any charge for fraudulent money actions, such as writing bad checks. They will check your social security number to check if you are banned from working for any company due to positive drug testing or minor thefts……Good luck

There are many types of jobs that require a background check. They are simply making sure you are telling the truth about your background. If you have been convicted of stealing, they will find out and they certainly wouldn’t want a casino dealer that was a thief. If you don’t have any convictions, you have no worries. Don’t forget about that drug test, too. The casino doesn’t want to hire a person that uses drugs because their insurance may get stuck paying $100,000 for rehab.
